Architectural Barriers Act

Most Federal buildings and certain federally funded buildings are covered by the Architectural Barriers Act (ABA) of 1968. This act is enforced by the Access Board and requires that covered federally funded buildings and facilities be accessible to persons with disabilities. The current accessibility standards issued under the Barriers Act are the Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards.

To file a complaint under the Barriers Act, you may use our online complaint form (note that we cannot ensure confidentiality of the information submitted over the Internet).

If your browser does not support forms, you may e-mail your complaint to enforce@access-board.gov.  If you wish to maintain confidentiality, print the alternate complaint form and then mail your completed form to the Access Board, Office of Compliance and Enforcement, Suite 1000, 1331 F St., NW, Washington, DC 20004-1111.

Two informational documents are available:  a brief description of how your complaint will be handled and a brochure entitled "About the Architectural Barriers Act" which briefly explains the Barriers Act and several other accessibility laws.  Also see our answers to frequently asked questions.
