ABSTRACT: The Office of Management and Budget assists the President in overseeing the preparation of the annual Federal budget. For Fiscal Year 2002, the Federal budget consisted of six volumes: the Budget, Analytical Perspectives, Historical Tables, the Budget Appendix, the Citizen's Guide to the Federal Budget, and Budget System and Concepts.

PURPOSE: The purpose of the annual Budget documents is to provide the Congress, State and local governments, and the public with a complete description of the President's budget plans for the coming fiscal year. The Budget includes, among other things, budget schedules for each account, new legislative proposals, explanations of work to be performed, and proposed text of appropriation language.
