Turn Talent Into Experience

The IRS campuses located in Covington, Kentucky are responsible for processing over 20 million tax returns. To accomplish this workload, over 2,000 seasonal employees are needed to work during the peak tax-filing season (January through June).

During the April workload peak, we fill hundreds of mail clerk positions. High school and college students are prime candidates for these positions, which last 30 days or less. Salary is based on experience and/or education with current rates from $7 to $9 an hour. Application packages are available in early March for these positions. All applicants must be U.S. citizens.

Although the primary need is for mail clerks who will work full time on either day shift or night shift, part-time shifts may become available for data transcribers, tax examiners, and other vacancies. A written test is required for these positions, including a skills test for data transcribers. Tests are administered daily at 10 a.m. and noon each Saturday at the Submission Processing Center.
