NCST Advisory Committee to Meet on October 19 and 20
World Trade Center, Rhode Island Nightclub Fire Investigations to be Discussed

What: The National Construction Safety Team (NCST) Advisory Committee, the panel of building and fire experts established to advise the Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) on its building failure investigations, will meet to hear presentations on the progress of the agency’s two ongoing investigations—the building collapses at New York City’s World Trade Center (WTC) following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001; and The Station nightclub fire of Feb. 20, 2003, in W. Warwick, R.I.

Sunder will lead a brief question-and-answer period for reporters on the WTC
investigation at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 19. Grosshandler and NIST
Building and Fire Research Laboratory Director James Hill will do the same for
the Rhode Island investigation at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

Concurrent with the meeting, all presentations will be on the NCST Web site, http://www.nist.gov/ncst.

Media Signup: For security reasons, all media—including production crew members—planning
to attend the briefing in person must register by noon Eastern Time on Monday,
Oct. 18, 2004, by calling (301) 975-2762 or by sending e-mail to media@nist.gov.
Registered media must have proper credentials (a news media badge with photo
or a photo ID with a business card) to enter the NIST campus.

Directions: Take I-270 North to Exit 10, make a right at the traffic light and then enter NIST
by turning left at the next traffic light (Bureau Dr.). Park next to the security
check-in area and obtain visitor passes. After check-in, make a left at the
T-intersection and follow the road around to the Administration Building. Park in
the lot directly across from the building.
