Internship Opportunities at the Jimmy Carter Library

These are unpaid positions

Presidential Libraries are repositories for the papers, records and historical materials of Presidents Herbert Hoover to George Bush. The Presidential libraries work to ensure that these irreplaceable items are preserved and made available for the widest possible use by researchers. Each library contains a Presidential museum and offers public programs to give the general public a better understanding of the individual Presidents, the institution of the Presidency, and the American political system.

The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum is one of ten presidential libraries administered by the National Archives and Records Administration. The Jimmy Carter Library and Museum was dedicated and opened to the public on October 1, 1986. The research room opened January 28, 1987.

The archives is a repository of approximately 27 million pages of Jimmy Carter's White House material, papers of administration associates, including documents, memoranda, correspondence, etc. There are also 1 1/2 million photographs, and hundreds of hours each of audio and video tape.

ARCHIVES UNIT INTERNSHIPS

This internship is designed to provide exposure to the archival profession, and specifically, the Jimmy Carter Library archives unit. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work with original and unique historical documents, learning archival principals and practice while also increasing their research skills. Duties assigned will involve the five basic archival functions: arrangement and description, preservation, and reference. Applicants should have some research skills. Archival principals helpful, but not required.

In addition to the above areas, opportunities may arise in other programs. Internships are available throughout the year including Fall and Spring semesters and summer months.
