Possible Federal Sources of Assistance to Federally Assisted Programs or Activities

Why Is It Necessary to Determine If There is Federal Assistance
In order to determine whether Title VI, Title IX, and other grant related nondiscirmination statutes apply to the programs or activities of an entity, it must be  determined whether the entity is a recipient of federal financial assistance.  It is also necessary to determine which federal agencies fund an entity believed to be discriminating to determine which federal agency or agencies complaints should be sent to.
Possible Sources of Federal Assistance to Recipients
The Agency-Recipient Overlap chart below lists the 30 federal agencies that provide federal financial assistance and the types of entities that they fund.  (Acronyms are written out in the Agency Key following the chart).  Federal agencies can use the chart to coordinate compliance efforts when entities that they fund (i.e., recipients) are also funded by another federal agency.  Community organizations and individuals who are beneficiaries of assistance can use the chart to determine where complaints of discrimination can be filed.

In addition, recipients must report grants received from the federal government pursuant to the Single Audit Act and OMB Circular 133.  This data base is searchable by entity and yields information about specific grants and grant amounts received, among other things.  This data base can be accessed by going to:   http://harvester.census.gov/sac/dissem/entity.html
