How to download a file and edit it.
The following are general
instructions. Most computers have similar procedures and features for saving
files locally and editing files in a word processor.
If your word processor is a recent version, you can probably "block",
"copy" and "paste" web pages directly into a document. A more efficient method
of capturing the document is to save the form on your local computer's home
drive and then open it for editing. To do this, do the following:
- Select the form you wish to edit so that you are viewing it in your
Internet browser.
- Click on the FILE menu (for most browsers) and then click on SAVE
AS.
- Select a Drive and Folder (directory) on your own computer or
network where you want to save the document. Name the document. Remember to
write down the DRIVE, FOLDER and FILENAME you assign the form.
- Start your word processor. Then select the OPEN icon from your word
processor's toolbar or select the OPEN FILE choice in the FILE menu. Navigate
to the drive and folder (directory) where the file was saved. Highlight the
file or type its filename. Then press the OK button or the ENTER key.
- Some word processors may immediately open the file as if it were in
the word processors own format. Other word processors may guess at the file
format and prompt you for confirmation. If your word processor presents a
screen such as the screen below, press the OK button to open the file.
