DALE CABANISS NOMINATED TO FEDERAL LABOR RELATIONS AUTHORITY

On September 3, 2002, President George W. Bush nominated Dale Cabaniss to serve as a Member of the Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA) for a five-year term, expiring July 29, 2007, and upon confirmation, designate her as Chairman. Ms. Cabaniss has served as FLRA Chairman since March 8, 2001 and has served as a Member of the Authority since 1997.

Prior to her appointment to the FLRA, Ms. Cabaniss served in a number of professional positions with the United States Senate, including the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee for Labor and Health and Human Services, where she served as the principal legal advisor to the Chairman, Ted Stevens of Alaska. Ms. Cabaniss also served as the Chief Counsel for the Senate Governmental Affairs Subcommittee on Post Office and Civil Service. In addition, she worked for Senator Frank Murkowski of Alaska as his Legislative Director and Legislative Assistant. Ms. Cabaniss received a B.A. from the University of Georgia and a J.D. from the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University.

Ms Cabaniss stated that "serving as a Member and Chairman of the FLRA has been a great privilege, and I am honored that the President has decided to nominate me."

The FLRA is an independent agency responsible for administering the labor-management relations program for 1.9 million non-Postal Service Federal employees worldwide, approximately 1.1 million of whom are exclusively represented in more than 2,000 bargaining units. The FLRA is comprised of three components, including the Authority; the Federal Service Impasses Panel; and the Office of the General Counsel.
