The FLRA today announced the appointment of Gerald Cole as Regional Director of the FLRA’s San Francisco Region. Cole, who currently serves as Regional Attorney in the San Francisco office, assumes the post on March 17, 1996. He will be responsible for overseeing the federal labor-management relations program in the San Francisco region, which has jurisdiction over California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington and the Far East.

Cole has extensive experience in federal and private sector labor law. He began his career with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and quickly rose to the position of Supervisory Attorney. In 1979, he became Regional Attorney of the FLRA’s former Los Angeles Region. Prior to his selection for this Regional Director position, he served as Regional Attorney in the San Francisco Region. He’s worked with unions and agencies throughout the San Francisco Region, litigating unfair labor practices, resolving representation disputes, facilitating partnerships and providing training in interest-based bargaining.

Cole received his undergraduate and law degree from UCLA. He resides in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife and two children.

The Federal Labor Relations Authority is an independent agency that administers the labor-management relations program for over 2.1 million Federal employees world-wide, over 1.3 million of whom are exclusively represented in more than 2,500 bargaining units. The FLRA fulfills its mission through three major operational components: the Authority -- the three-member quasi-judicial body; the Office of General Counsel -- the independent investigative and prosecutorial component; and the Federal Service Impasses Panel -- the independent body that resolves negotiation impasses.

The FLRA’s seven regional offices, which are under the direction and supervision of the FLRA’s General Counsel, are located in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. The Offices investigate, settle and prosecute unfair labor practice complaints; ensure compliance with all unfair labor practice orders issued by the Authority and receive and process representation petitions and supervise elections.
