NEW FLRA REGIONAL ATTORNEY APPOINTED

FLRA General Counsel Joe Swerdzewski today announced the appointment of Barbara S. Liggett as Regional Attorney of the Washington D.C. Regional Office.

As Regional Attorney, Ms. Liggett will be responsible for managing all of the legal work for the Region, including using traditional and alternative dispute resolution techniques to investigate, settle and prosecute unfair labor practice charges and to process representation petitions. The Washington D.C. Regional Office, which is under the management of the General Counsel, covers: Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.

Ms. Liggett is an experienced labor relations professional who has served in a variety of positions with the FLRA’s Office of the General Counsel, including supervisory attorney responsible for the management of the recently closed Philadelphia Sub-Regional office. A recipient of numerous awards for exemplary service, Ms. Liggett received her Bachelor’s and Juris Doctorate degrees from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Before joining the FLRA in 1980, she was a labor relations practitioner in the private sector.

The Federal Labor Relations Authority is an independent agency that administers the labor-management relations program for over 1.9 million federal employees worldwide, over 1.3 million of whom are exclusively represented in more than 2,500 bargaining units. The Office of the General Counsel is the independent investigative and prosecutorial component of the FLRA.
