A New Resource on
Construction Safety and Health

eLCOSH

Starting in August 2000, a new web site, the Electronic Library of Construction Safety and Health, eLCOSH, will provide a wide range of materials on construction safety and health. The goal is to improve safety and health for construction workers by making such information easier to obtain than in the past.

A similar project, the National Agricultural Safety Database since 1997 has been on the Internet at http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/nasd/nasdhome.html

Development of eLCOSH is being supported through a grant to the The Center to Protect Workers’ Rights (CPWR) from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, which is part of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. CPWR is the research arm of the Building and Construction Trades Department, AFL-CIO, which consists of 15 affiliate unions.

Workers, contractors, researchers, and others will be able to download information from a broad range of sources — in English, Spanish, and other languages. The materials will include:
• Pocket cards
• Brochures
• How-to manuals
• Chart books
• Newsletters
• Research reports
• Directories
• Training manuals and overheads
• Data sets
• Bibliographies
• Regulations
• Summaries of CD-ROMs and videos (and where to get them).

Postings will be limited, with rare exceptions, to items that apply directly to construction safety and health. eLCOSH will provide links to related web sites.

If you have produced an item that might be appropriate for eLCOSH, please contact Center to Protect Workers' Rights (CPWR):
