Futures Initiative

“I would like to reiterate my support for the CDC organizational changes, which offer great opportunities for accomplishing the goals that we all see as critical for occupational health and safety in these changing times.”

-- Dr. John Howard, Director of NIOSH

SHAPING THE FUTURE:
THE CDC FUTURES INITIATIVE

On May 13, 2004, Dr. Julie L. Gerberding, Director, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), announced new organizational changes in CDC that resulted from the ongoing strategic development process known as the CDC Futures Initiative.

The new organizational design offers significant opportunities for preventing occupational injuries, illnesses, and deaths in the changing workplace of the 21st Century.

These opportunities include:

  • New avenues for closer collaborations between NIOSH and other CDC programs that address fundamentally similar issues.

  • Streamlining of programs to deliver occupational safety and health services more efficiently and effectively.

  • More resources for NIOSH’s core functions of research and outreach, through reduction of administrative expenses.

Further information is available from the resources on this page. The future is now. We welcome your comments, suggestions, and questions to help guide this process. Please contact us.
