A Special Thanks
We'd like to give a special thanks to Americans Communicating Electronically (ACE) who had the foresight to reserve the www.kids.gov website address. When these great folks heard about the portal we were developing for kids' websites, they let us have the www.kids.gov website address.

How Our Site is Organized
We have divided the site into educational subjects that you might have in your school. Within each subject, we have also divided the sites into these categories: Government, Organizations, Education, and Commercial. The Government sites could be Federal, State, or Military sites. Government sites generally do not sell anything. They are simply sharing information with visitors. Organization sites are developed by groups that have an interest in a special topic and they want to share their information. Sometimes these sites do sell products. Education sites are developed by schools. They can be developed by colleges/universities or high, middle, or elementary schools. These sites usually do not have products to sell. Commercial sites are developed by businesses. Commercial sites share information, but they also have products to sell.

Disclaimer
FirstGov for Kids is a gateway to other information resources. That means that when you click on our list of links, you will be leaving our site. The sites we link to may be selling services or products. By linking to these sites, FirstGov for Kids is not endorsing these services or products. As a gateway, we are not responsible for writing or maintaining the information on the sites that we link to. If you have questions or comments about the information, you should use the e-mail links or forms that site has provided. Kids, remember to show your parents or some other responsible adult what you are doing before you send any personal information.

Kids' Privacy on our site
FirstGov for Kids does not ask for or collect personal, individually-identifiable information from kids. We do use computer logfiles so we can see how many visitors we have, but we can't tell personal information from them. If any visitor to the site chooses to provide us with personal information, as in an email inquiry, that information is not required; it will be required only if you want a response to your message. The information will not be used for any purpose other than to respond to the inquiry. We do not create individual profiles from the information provided or distribute the information to other organizations.

Message to Children - Be careful on the web
FirstGov for Kids is a gateway. That means that when you click on a link, you will be leaving our site. Most of the sites we link to are the kid's sites of government agencies, but we do include other sites, as well. Government sites have to follow special rules for their kid's sites, but non-government sites do not have to follow the same rules. You may click to a site that will ask you for personal information, like your name, address, telephone number, or email address. Before you provide any information, show your parent or some other responsible adult what you are doing. Be safety smart!

Message to Parents and Guardians
FirstGov for Kids is a gateway that will take your children to other sites. A majority of the links we provide will take your children to other government sites, but we do link to commercial and other non-government sites. Although many of the sites we link to must adhere to federal rules established to protect children's privacy, please understand that not all sites have to comply with these rules. While we have selected sites that we feel offer good, reliable information, we are not responsible for the content provided on these sites. Nor are we responsible for their adherence to federal rules to protect children's privacy. It is important that you monitor your children's communication on-line to insure that they do not provide personally identifiable information to websites that you feel are unacceptable. Tell your children to ask you or another adult to look at what they are doing first if they wish to provide their name, address, telephone number, or email address to a website.
