ALBE DATA PAGE

Data for the Albemarle-Pamlico Drainage National Water-Quality Assessment study were collected at selected sites for ground-water, surface water and biology. More than 65 surface water sites were sampled between 1993 and 1995 for nutrients, pesticides and other chemical constituents . More than 57 ground water sites were sampled for these same constituents during the same period. Wells were less than 50 feet in depth and located in the surficial aquifer of the Coastal Plain. Wells in the surficial and Yorktown aquifers were selected because the these aquifers are the most likely to become contaminated by human activities on the land surface. The assesment of aquatic biology included sampling contaniments in tissues at 19 sites and in bed sediment at 22 sites, intensely surveying biological comunities at 6 sites, and reviewing communities in less detail at 46 sites.
