Special Initiatives at ATSDR

Alaska Traditional Diet Project - Identifies and studies contaminants in the environment, subsistence resources, and people in Alaska native populations.

Bioterrorism - ATSDR's Role in the Response to Bioterrorism - Since the September 11 attacks, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) has worked with other federal agencies, state and local health departments, and other organizations to respond to the enormous challenges of this tragedy.

Children's Health - Information about ATSDR's efforts to integrate children's health concerns into all ATSDR programs.

Fish Consumption Advisories in Michigan - Senate Report 107-43 directs ATSDR to report by December 31, 2001, on the feasibility of a proposal to establish a pilot program in Michigan for fish consumption advisories, including funding requirements for such a pilot program. This report responds to the directive by demonstrating how ATSDR and its Great Lakes partners can build upon 10 years of successful research efforts in the basin to establish a new program that specifically addresses this emerging public health priority. Key parameters for the program are identified.

Great Lakes Human Health Effects Research Program - Investigates the association between the consumption of contaminated Great Lakes fish and short- and long-term harmful health effects.

Mississippi Delta Program

National Organizations Program - ATSDR conducts many public health education and health promotion activities through collaborative projects and partnerships with national organizations of health professionals. This page includes a list of the ten national organizations with which ATSDR has funded cooperative agreement projects.

State Cooperative Agreement Partners - This is a list of ATSDR's current state cooperative agreement partners.

Tribal Affairs - Assists with tribal-specific environmental health needs resulting from exposure to hazardous waste sites and pollution.

Urban Affairs - Focuses attention on the environmental and human health condition in communities of color, low-income communities, and other communities that have concerns about improving health and quality of life related to environmental threats.
