Federal Bureau of Prisons
Federal Correctional Complex
Allenwood, PA

"Do Your Career Justice"

The Federal Bureau of Prisons is an agency within the Department of Justice and our mission "Is to protect society by confining offenders in the controlled environments of prison and community-based facilities that are safe, humane, and appropriately secure, and that provide work and other self-improvement opportunities to assist offenders in becoming law-abiding citizens."

Here at the Federal Correctional Complex (FCC) Allenwood we have numerous paid internships ranging from Case Management to Human Resources and several different types of appointments. Our student trainee program enables students to gain experience and knowledge in their field and within the Federal government. Students may eligible to receive health benefits, life insurance, and they may also start their retirement plan, too! Our appointments allow interns to be non-competitively converted into a permanent position within 120 days after they graduate. We have more than 90 facilities in the United States, including Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

There are also student summer intern positions available. The appointments are staffed during the period of May 15 through September 30. There is no limitation on the number of hours worked each week. If your appointment exceeds 90 days, you can earn annual and sick leave. If your schedule includes a federal holiday, you will be paid accordingly.

Another option is to serve as a student volunteer. As a student volunteer, your service is performed without compensation and an agreement is established with your educational institution. You can perform the service for a period not to exceed six months on a full-time or substantially full-time basis. Extensions may be authorized. The service you perform can be creditable for qualifying experience for future employment and you are covered by workers' compensation and the Tort Claim Act.

If you would like to speak to Human Resources please contact us at (570)547-7950 or if you would like to speak to a former student trainee who is now a permanent federal employee just e-mail her at ttallman@bop.gov .

AS OF: 02-07-01
