The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has a variety of student employment programs to accommodate students' schedules including Internships, Cooperative Work-study Program, and Part-time Student Employment. Many of FERC's current employees began their careers in one of these programs.

What is FERC?
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is an independent regulatory agency within the Department of Energy. Our primary goal is to meet the Nation's needs for energy markets and infrastructure through responsive, flexible regulation of key interstate aspects of the electric power, natural gas, oil pipeline, and hydroelectric industries.

What Type of Work Can I Do?
You can perform career related tasks such as accounting, biology, economics, engineering, environmental science, finance, human resource management, and mathematics. Additionally, students are called upon to provide office automation duties, supporting the full-time Commission staff.

Where Will I Work?
You will work within walking distance of Union Station in Washington, DC.

How Much Will I Be Paid?
Your pay will depend on your work experience and educational background. Generally, the pay rate will be between a GS-3 and a GS-7.

When Can I Apply?
Resumes are accepted anytime throughout the year.

Requirements:

  • Student enrolled in an accredited academic program
  • Citizen of the U.S.
  • Maintain a GPA of 2.0
