Navy Seeks Student Hires

[agency logo]

The Human Resources Service Center Southwest (HRSC SW) is seeking applications from students pursing employment in our Navy activities located in southern and central California. We also have employment opportunities located in Washington State, East Coast region, and overseas. These opportunities include positions in professional, administrative, technical, clerical, and wage grade fields. Student employment is offered through the Student Educational Employment Program, which includes the following three programs:

Student Temporary Education Program (STEP) provides temporary, paid employment opportunities to students while they complete their education. Work duties vary, and do not have to be related to the student's academic field of study. The employment may be extended in one-year increments as long as the student meets all academic eligibility requirements and maintains acceptable work performance standards.

Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) is a planned career development program that integrates classroom theory with related, paid work experience with a Navy organization. The SCEP is a partnership between the student, the college or training institution, and the Navy. The program is designed to provide planned progressive student employment opportunities leading to possible permanent federal employment.

Outstanding Scholar Program is established for entry-level administrative positions at the GS-05 and GS-07 grade levels. This program covers the majority of career fields available with the Navy; however, it does not cover occupational fields in accounting, auditing, engineering, physical sciences, biological sciences, and mathematics.

We're looking for a special type of individual to fill these positions. We want people who are strongly committed to the security of our nation; civilians who want the opportunity to ensure that our men and women in uniform are assisted in matters of pay, personnel services, transportation, and other related services. In return, we can offer a rewarding and challenging career with excellent pay and outstanding benefits as part of the civilian Navy family.

Students hired under the SCEP and Outstanding Scholar Program can earn two and a half weeks paid annual vacation in the first year, not counting 10 paid holidays and 13 days sick leave per year. A new employee may also participate in a 401K type of program. Insurance benefits include low-cost life insurance and a choice of over 15 different health plans at group rates. Reservists are also entitled to military leave to perform active duty service.
