Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration

You Can Help Ensure Fair Tax Administration for All Americans

Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration

Are you interested in being a professional auditor, special agent, computer specialist, or resource specialist who can make a difference in the daily lives of all Americans? Then the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) is the place for you! We are a vibrant organization using cutting-edge technology to review the Internal Revenue Service's (IRS) programs and services. Created in January 1999 and with about 950 employees in over 25 locations throughout the country, we are one of the largest Inspector General organizations in the Federal government.

Our mission is to provide independent audit and investigative services that promote the effective, efficient, and ethical delivery of IRS services. We accomplish this by:

  • Auditing IRS programs to assess efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance with laws and regulations and to prevent, detect, and deter fraud, waste, and abuse.
  • Investigating misconduct of IRS employees, attempts to corrupt or threaten IRS employees, and external attempts to interfere with the administration of tax laws.

Our computer specialists provide invaluable mission-related support to our strategic goals in the areas of enterprise architecture, telecommunications, research and development, data management and warehousing, application development, and network administration.

Our Office of Management Services coordinates our resource management needs including human resources, budget and financial services, and procurement activities. This office also is responsible for strategic planning, performance management, and external reporting requirements.
