Department of Veterans Affairs
San Diego Regional Office

Want to Make a Difference?

[agency logo]

This isn't your typical government job. We strive to enhance the lives of Veterans, their families, and each other. Our goal is to serve those who served their country with respect, compassion, and fairness. If you want to make a difference for one person or for the masses, the VA may be the place for you to do it.

Our mission at the Department of Veterans Affairs is to provide excellent service and support to Veterans and their families. The Regional Office, centrally located in Mission Valley, is partnered with the Veterans Health Administration in La Jolla and the National Cemetery Administration in Point Loma. Our shared vision is best exemplified in the words of Omar Bradley (1947):

"We are dealing with veterans, not procedures - with their problems, not ours."

Our vision is that the veterans whom we serve will feel that our nation has kept its commitment to them; employees will feel that they are both recognized for their contribution and are part of something larger than themselves; and taxpayers will feel that we've met the responsibilities they've entrusted to us. Courage, honesty, trust, respect, open communication, and accountability is reflected in our day to day behavior.

We recruit for various positions throughout the year, from Vocational Rehabilitation counselors to Veterans Service Representatives, from Administrative Support to Technical Experts. We also house the Work Study Program and have opportunities for students to intern, observe, and volunteer for our organization. The VA considers applicants from all fields of study and back grounds.

One example of a major hiring effort, the Opportunity Initiative, takes place in late spring. Applicants with outstanding scholastic back grounds, Veterans, and/or those who meet certain eligibility requirements are considered. Opportunity 2001 enables us to recruit qualified candidates as Veterans Service Representatives at a competitive salary with excellent benefits.

If you are interested in a fast paced, dynamic career with plenty of potential for professional and personal growth, check us out! We are looking for detail oriented, motivated team players who aren't afraid to take the initiative, are open to change, and think outside of the box. We value a culture where everyone is involved, takes responsibility, and whose goal is to meet the needs of veterans and their families. We want you to learn and grow with us.

Are you ready to make a difference?
