On April 21, 2004, Chairman Stratton and Minister Li Changjiang of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China signed a Memorandum of Understanding whereby both sides agree to work together to provide greater protections of the health of consumers in the United States and China. The signing of the MOU, which took place at the U.S. Department of Commerce, will facilitate a closer and more cooperative relationship with the Chinese government. Both agencies have committed to the exchange of scientific, technical, and regulatory information to help ensure the quality, safety and proper labeling of consumer products. The information exchange includes the training of laboratory and inspection personnel in China. CPSC also issued a press release announcing this cooperative agreement.
