Who
Should Conduct a Usability Test?
At
least one of the test team members should be a trained usability specialist.
All
other team members should be trained in how to:
- interact with
users during a usability test session
- observe and really
see what is happening
- listen and really
hear what the user is saying
- separate observations
(what you see and hear) from inferences (assumptions and conclusions
about the observations)
- take useful notes
- ask questions
that neither lead nor blame the user
Include Stakeholders
The people who created the Web site should be part of the team in terms
of planning the usability test, observing the test sessions, and making
sense of the data. But they should not be the entire test team. You
need an outside perspective to really see and hear what is happening
as users work with the site.
