Energy Prices Up, Solutions Struck Down...Four Years in a Row

Washington, DC - With oil prices exceeding $53 a barrel and the 108th Congress drawing to a close, a few obstructionists in the U.S. Senate appear to have succeeded in blocking the National Energy Policy from passing for the second Congress in a row.

“The current political climate makes it fashionable for some to proclaim that the Bush energy policy has failed,” House Resources Committee Chairman Richard W. Pombo (R-CA) said. “In truth, it is a handful of powerful Democrat Senators that have failed the American people by blocking passage of the Bush plan. The House has passed comprehensive energy plans four times since 2001, but these obstructionists have rendered the Senate incapable of passing a bill for the second Congress in a row.” More...
