Washington, DC - With oil prices exceeding $53 a barrel and the 108th Congress drawing to a close, a few obstructionists in the U.S. Senate appear to have succeeded in blocking the National Energy Policy from passing for the second Congress in a row.

“The current political climate makes it fashionable for some to proclaim that the Bush energy policy has failed,” House Resources Committee Chairman Richard W. Pombo (R-CA) said. “In truth, it is a handful of powerful Democrat Senators that have failed the American people by blocking passage of the Bush plan.
