DODISS Fields

DODISS Doc ID or DODISS Document Identification Number This field is similar to the AD Number field in DTIC's Technical Reports Collection, this field holds the unique alphanumeric ID number that every DODISS entry is assigned. It contains several pieces of information, including slash number, part number, interim indicator, revision, amendment, and notices. It is useful to search when you wish to retrieve a specific record for which you know the ID number. An example is "MIL-C-46344A(3) NOT1".

Title This field search will return only documents that have part or the entire title you have specified. Several special statements can appear in DODISS titles. The statement 'Document exists only as a reference in database' means the specification/standard cited was referenced in another document. S/S indicates the document following supersedes the document. An example is: "computers, ballistics:M13A2".

Date This field indicates the date of the latest action on a specification standard excluding the issuance of a supplement. Also excluded are validation dates before June 1986. Although the format of the DODISS Document Date field is DD-MONTH-YY or 21 AUG 89, you must use the YYYY-MM-DD or 1989-08-21 format when performing a search on this field.

Status This DODISS field refers to the current status of the specification or standard. This status is notated using the following codes :

  • A = Active
  • C = Cancelled
  • I = Inactive

An example is cancelled document "MIL-STD-838C NOT1" which was superseded (S/S) by "MIL-HDBK-838".

Preparing Activity This field contains the code representing the standardization activity that prepared the specification/standard. The Preparing Activity code list is a PDF file. To view and display the PDF file, you need an Adobe Acrobat viewer. Adobe has FREE Acrobat Reader software available that you can download for Macintosh, Windows, MS-DOS and Sun Unix.

FSC Code The FSC Code is the Federal Supply Classification Code (Numeric) pertaining to the specification/standard as described in DoD Handbook H2-1. The following alpha symbols standardization areas (not listed in DoD Handbook H2-1) are defined as follows:
