4th International Conference on Pharmaceuticals in Water Resources
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is one of the co-sponsors of the National Ground Water Association's 4th International Conference on Pharmaceuticals in Water Resources. The conference will take place October 13-15, 2004, in Minneapolis, MN. Information on the occurrence, fate, effects, and implications of pharmaceuticals and endocrine disrupting chemicals in water resources will be presented at the conference. Multiple papers by USGS scientists will be presented that highlight the USGS Toxic Substances Hydrology Program's research on emerging contaminants in water resources. Abstracts are being considered on a wide range of conference topics listed below. Abstracts are due April 16, 2004.
- Analytical methods for detection of pharmaceuticals and endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) in environmental samples
- Occurrence of pharmaceuticals and EDCs in sewage, surface, ground, and drinking water
- Sources and fate and transport of pharmaceuticals and EDCs in the environment
- Modeling and measurement of pharmaceuticals from hospital, municipal, and veterinary sources
- Natural attenuation of pharmaceuticals and EDCs in the environment
- Management of pharmaceutical wastes
- Fate and transport of pharmaceuticals and EDCs during stream bank filtration
- Human health effects from environmental exposure to pharmaceuticals and EDCs
- Antibiotics and drug resistant bacteria in the environment
- Distribution, occurrence, and effects of pharmaceuticals and EDCs on wildlife
- Environmental and human risk assessment and management of pharmaceuticals and EDCs
- New regulatory approaches in the United States and Europe
- Proteomic and genomic approaches for assessing EDC's effects on cells
- Technologies for detection, evaluation of metabolism, and activities of EDCs
- Innovative and cost-effective remediation and treatment technologies
