MEMORANDUM TO:
CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICERS
FROM: BOB HAYCOCK,
FEA PROGRAM MANAGER, OMB
SUBJECT: REVIEW
OF DRAFT SERVICE COMPONENT AND
TECHNICAL REFERENCE MODELS
The Federal Enterprise
Architecture Draft Service Component Reference Model (SRM)
and Technical Reference Model (TRM) have been released for
Federal Agency review and comment. The SRM is a business-driven,
functional framework that classifies service capabilities
(or components) with respect to how they support an Agency's
business and performance objectives. The SRM is intended to
support major government-wide transformation and reform efforts.
The TRM is a component-driven,
technical framework that identifies the standards and specifications
that comprise a service component. The TRM is intended to
supplement existing TRM and e-Gov guidance by providing a
foundation to advance the reuse of technology and component
services from a Government-wide perspective.
The draft reference
models are described in a PowerPoint briefing, SRM_TRM_for_Agency_Review.ppt.
This briefing has been posted to the Federal Enterprise Architecture
Folder on the secure site of the Federal CIO Council Home
Page. The Federal Enterprise Architecture – Program
Management Office (FEA-PMO) requests that you share the briefing
with those within your agency with a detailed understanding
of your Agency's Enterprise and Component-Based Architectures
and associated processes.
The FEA-PMO is
developing an Agency Review and Comment Template to highlight
the areas we would like you to consider during your review
of the draft models, and to assist the PMO during comment
review and consideration. We ask that you use the Template
when submitting your agency’s comments to the PMO. The
Template will also be posted to the Federal Enterprise Architecture
Folder on the secure site of the Federal CIO Council Home
Page.
The FEA-PMO will
be collecting comments on the draft SRM and TRM through Friday,
March 7, 2003. Comments may be submitted in writing to Support@feapmo.gov.
Alternatively, if you would prefer to meet and discuss specific
issues regarding the draft SRM and TRM with the FEA-PMO, please
contact Amie Ingber at (202) 395-0372 or Amie_Ingber@omb.eop.gov
to schedule a meeting.
Thank you for your
continued support for our efforts to develop the Federal Enterprise
Architecture reference models.
Bob Haycock,
FEA Program Manager
