National Landscape Conservation System

The Bureau of Land Management has established the National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) to help protect some of the nation's most remarkable and rugged landscapes. The system will ensure that future generations will enjoy some of the United States' last, great open spaces. In Idaho, NLCS designations include the Craters of the Moon National Monument; the Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area; the Lewis and Clark, Nez Perce, Oregon and California National Historic Trails; the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail; the Frank Church – River of No Return Wilderness; and 63 Wilderness Study Areas.
