CSAP's Comprehensive Prevention SystemCSAP’s comprehensive prevention system is an integrated approach designed to get the right tools into the hands of States and communities. The goal is to bring effective substance abuse prevention practices to every community to help ensure reductions in substance abuse. In support of this goal, CSAP actively collaborates with other Federal, State, public, and private organizations. CSAP carries out its mission by funding programs in the following areas:
Knowledge DevelopmentCSAP's Knowledge Development programs develop and evaluate innovative and proven prevention methods and their uses; collect, analyze, and synthesize prevention intervention outcome knowledge; and monitor emerging issues and national trends. These programs contribute towards the fulfillment of SAMHSA's goal to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice. Programs include the following: Children of Substance Abusing Parents (COSAP)Family Strengthening Program Federal Drug-Free Workplace Program High Risk Youth Minimum Data Set (MDS) National Drug-Free Workplace Experience Parenting Adolescents & Welfare Reform Predictor Variables Project Youth Connect Starting Early, Starting Smart (SESS) Knowledge Dissemination and ApplicationCSAP's Knowledge Dissemination and Application efforts distribute information on science-based prevention policies, practices, and programs and facilitate their adoption through technical assistance, publications, and training. Mechanisms that currently disseminate CSAP knowledge include: Prevention PlatformSAMHSA’s National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information Public Education Campaigns Capacity BuildingCSAP's Capacity Building activities expand the capacity of States and local communities to provide prevention services so more people have access to them. Capacity building mechanisms include the following: Centers for the Application of Prevention Technologies (CAPT)State Incentive Grants (SIG) |
