HHS Announces $3.2 Million in HCAP Demonstration Grants

Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy G. Thompson today announced grants totaling more than $3.2 million to support Healthy Communities Access Program (HCAP) demonstration projects in California, Georgia, Tennessee and Virginia.

The grants will help four historically black health professions schools:

  • develop patient-based research infrastructure;
  • create collaborative programs to share research findings with health care providers working to improve the health status of medically underserved populations; and
  • support the research-based costs of patient care, data collection, and academic training.
"By supporting research efforts at these medical schools, these grants will further our ongoing efforts to improve health outcomes for minority Americans," said Secretary Thompson.
