The Council on Graduate Medical Education
recently elected F. Marian Bishop as its new vice-chair.
Bishop, professor and chair emeritus of the
University of Utah School of Medicine's Department of Family
and Preventive Medicine, has served COGME
as a member since 1998.
Her contributions to the council include advocacy for
primary health care and the development of a monograph
on COGME.
Bishop is past president of both the Society
of Teachers of Family Medicine and the Association of Teachers
of Preventive Medicine.
She has served on the National Health Service Corps Advisory
Council and the Executive Committee of the National Board of
Medical Examiners.
COGME advises the HHS Secretary and Congress
on physician workforce trends, training issues and financing
policies. The council
also makes recommendations regarding the supply and distribution
of physicians and the appropriate efforts of hospitals, medical
schools and accrediting bodies to deliver health care to the
nation.
HRSA's Division
of Medicine and Dentistry, located in the Bureau
of Health Professions, provides executive and staffing support
for COGME.
