Bishop Is COGME's New Vice-Chair

The Council on Graduate Medical Education recently elected F. Marian Bishop as its new vice-chair.

Bishop, professor and chair emeritus of the University of Utah School of Medicine's Department of Family and Preventive Medicine, has served COGME as a member since 1998.  Her contributions to the council include advocacy for primary health care and the development of a monograph on COGME.

Bishop is past president of both the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine and the Association of Teachers of Preventive Medicine.  She has served on the National Health Service Corps Advisory Council and the Executive Committee of the National Board of Medical Examiners.

COGME advises the HHS Secretary and Congress on physician workforce trends, training issues and financing policies.  The council also makes recommendations regarding the supply and distribution of physicians and the appropriate efforts of hospitals, medical schools and accrediting bodies to deliver health care to the nation.

HRSA's Division of Medicine and Dentistry, located in the Bureau of Health Professions, provides executive and staffing support for COGME.
