HRSA Sponsors Free Training for AIDS Service and Community Organizations

The Health Resources and Services Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are sponsoring eight free regional training sessions conducted by the National Minority AIDS Council for AIDS service organizations and community-based organizations.

The first training is scheduled for Feb. 12-15 in Albuquerque, N.M.  Detailed information on the agenda, session workshops, registration, parking and hotel logistics is available at http://www.nmac.org/conference/regionals/albuquerque/welcome.htm.

Remaining 2002 regional training sessions are scheduled for:

  • April 15-18 in Birmingham, Ala.;
  • May 6-10 in Detroit;
  • June 3-7 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.;
  • July 15-19 in Washington, D.C.;
  • Aug. 12-16 in Minneapolis;
  • Oct. 21-25 in Denver; and
  • Nov. 18-22 in Oakland, Calif.

The regional training sessions have been developed especially for HIV/AIDS prevention and care providers who serve people of color. The theme for the sessions is "The Challenge of HIV/AIDS: Confronting Oppression."

The workshops at the sessions are intended to help individuals and organizations build skills and capacity in:

  • Board Development
  • Community Planning Leadership and Orientation Training
  • Fiscal Management
  • Fundraising Overview and Grant Writing
  • HIV Treatment Update
  • Program Evaluation
  • Ryan White CARE Act Programs
  • CARE Act Planning Council Leadership Development, and
  • Addressing HIV/AIDS Stigma to Improve Access to Care.
