HRSA Grants Support Leadership Training in Pediatric Dentistry

HRSA recently awarded training grants in pediatric dentistry to three universities to help them prepare leaders in oral health.

The grantees -- the University of Iowa, the University of North Carolina and the University of Washington – will share nearly $3 million in grants during the five-year project period.

The universities’ Centers for Leadership Training in Pediatric Dentistry will provide:

  • postdoctoral training of pediatric dentists as leaders in education, research, public health administration and advocacy, and as primary care specialists in oral health programs for mothers and children;
  • development and dissemination of curricula, teaching modules and other educational resources; and
  • continuing education, consultation and technical assistance in pediatric oral health.

During the first year of the project, the University of Iowa received $210,000, the University of North Carolina, $200,000, and the University of Washington, $119,873, for a total of $529,873.

HRSA’s Division of Research Training and Education, Maternal and Child Health Bureau (www.mchb.hrsa.gov), administers the grant program.
