HRSA Administrator Elizabeth M. Duke announced
that $2 million is available to improve training for psychologists
who work with medically underserved individuals and families.
The grants will help health professions schools,
universities and other public or nonprofit organizations develop
graduate psychology education programs that prepare psychologists
to provide behavioral and mental health services to medically
underserved individuals. This group includes children,
the elderly, victims of abuse and the chronically ill or disabled.
The Graduate Psychology Education Program
is part of HRSA's effort to improve and expand access to quality
health care by weaving mental health care into primary care
services for medically underserved people.
HRSA's Bureau
of Health Professions will administer the grants.
