HRSA Awards $4.9 Million in Grants to Fund Black Lung ClinicsHHS Secretary Tommy G. Thompson today announced the award of 16 grants
totaling These grants will help 16,000 coal miners and other Americans get the health care they need to prevent or treat black lung and other lung diseases, Secretary Thompson said. The grants were awarded to community health centers, public health departments, hospitals and other organizations in 11 states. HHS Health Resources and Services Administration manages the Black Lung Clinic program through its Bureau of Primary Health Care. Todays grants are funded under the Black Lung Benefits Reform Act. These grants provide important health care resources for miners with black lung disease, who often live in isolated rural areas far from major medical centers, said HRSA Administrator Elizabeth M. Duke. A list of recipients is attached below.
