Welcome!
As the only national grassroots membership organization to focus solely on issues unique to women as they age, OWL strives to improve the status and quality of life of midlife and older women. OWL is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that accomplishes its work through research, education, and advocacy activities conducted through a chapter network. more...

For years OWL has had the slogan, “Vote as if your life depends on it!” Well, this year this message is even more pertinent, the numbers of uninsured are raising, and as the 2004 Mother’s Day Report pointed out, adults age 55- 64 are more likely than children to lack health insurance. On November 2nd, you will have the opportunity to let Congress and the Administration know how you feel– don’t waste it –because thinking about what could be in store for midlife and older women in the next four years is a frightening thought.

OWL Testifies at the FDA hearing on Drug Reimportation:

As part of its legislative mandate the FDA is required to solicit feedback on ways to safely import prescription drugs from Canada. OWL was invited to speak on behalf of midlife and older women and their concerns about the high costs of prescription drugs.

A Poor Prognosis: Healthcare Costs and Aging Women (pdf)

Healthcare costs increased by double digits during the last few years. Quick fixes in the last decade simply slowed increases for several years and once again women at risk of financial security as they age are often at a loss in obtaining affordable adequate healthcare. OWL has advocated for change in the American healthcare system since its inception in 1980. Improvements have been limited and we find again ourselves experiencing a healthcare crisis.
