Abstract

The mission of the Hepatitis Foundation International (HFI) is to bring viral hepatitis under control through education of the public, patients and professionals about diagnosis and treatment of viral hepatitis; to prevent viral hepatitis and promote healthful lifestyles; to serve as advocates for patients and the medical community worldwide and to support research to find cures. HFI provides research grants and conducts education and training programs for professionals and the lay public. It promotes preventive education with its award winning videos and materials on liver wellness and the prevention of hepatitis and substance abuse. The Foundation collaborates with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other government and non-government agencies, the corporate community and lay organizations to encourage their participation in Partners in Liver Wellness, a multifaceted hepatitis and substance abuse prevention initiative. HFI has a database of support groups across the nation and maintains a support network by phone.

Publications

www.Hepfi.org features information in several languages on viral hepatitis, brochures, posters, Quick and Easy Primers for Teachers, booklets and other teaching tools, and coloring books for children in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. Videos are available for adolescents in Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin and a special version for African American youth on liver wellness and prevention of hepatitis. Additional videos are available for high risk populations, The Silent Stalker, and one for a general audience on blood borne pathogens/liver wellness to comply with OSHA's educational requirements caled The Invisible Threat. A half hour video is available on hepatitis C and another on hepatitis A, B and C for a lay audience.
