Freedom of Information Act
***EFFECTIVE 1 July 2004 - All Requests under Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) for 59th Medical Wing records will be processed through Lackland AFB FOIA Manager, 37 CS/SCBR.***
The Freedom of Information Act Program allows the general public including foreign citizens, military and civilian personnel acting as private citizens, to request records in writing or electronically from the Federal Government. Some information may not be releasable to the public under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA); therefore the records may reflect deletions in accordance with the FOIA’s nine statutory exemptions or two law enforcement record exclusions. A consolidated list of such records is on DefenseLink. Currently, the law allows 20 working days to process a FOIA request upon receipt of the request in the FOIA office.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Who can submit a FOIA request?
- Any "person" can make a FOIA request, including U.S. citizens, foreign nationals, organizations, universities, businesses, and state and local governments. Federal agencies or fugitives from the law cannot make FOIA requests.
- How do I make a request?
- If you want to submit a FOIA inquiry for records belonging to Lackland AFB, send a written request to our FOIA office. Cite the FOIA and describe the records you want as specifically as possible and/or give other details or information of the records you want. This will help us decide where to search and determine what records pertain to your request. Also, let us know how much you are willing to pay for these records. There is no special form to complete. However, make sure that there is a good address, telephone number, and person to contact if we have any questions regarding your request. You may mail your request, hand carry it, fax it, or e-mail it. When mailing your request, make sure the envelope is marked "FOIA."
- How can I obtain copies of transcripts of my AF formal training?
- If you misplaced or lost copies of your training records, you do not need to submit a request under the FOIA. Simply contact the Community College of the Air Force.
