COOL: College Opportunities On-Line

IPEDS College Opportunities On-Line is your direct link to over 9,000 colleges and universities in the United States. If you are thinking about a large university, a small liberal arts college, a specialized college, a community college, a career or technical college or a trade school, you can find them all here.

students.gov has a mission -- to give college students, college-bound students, and their families easy access to the information and services they need from the U.S. Government and selected non-government web sites. How do we know what students want? We ask! We've built the site around feedback and requests from the people who us it. On students.gov, government services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. On your time. From across your campus or around the world.

students.gov brings together all kinds of information and services that students and their families have told us they need. You can come to one place to find what you want, instead of searching the entire web. We've done the legwork, so you save time and have more success finding what you need.

students.gov is a cooperative effort between federal agencies, students, and other parts of the higher education community, under the leadership of the U.S. Department of Education. The following national student associations were partners in the initial development of the site: American Medical Student Association, National Association of Graduate-Professional Students, National Black Graduate Student Association, and the United States Student Association. Frequent student focus groups and usability evaluations help us keep the site fresh and student-centered.

Through students.gov you can:
  • Find the right college
  • Apply for federal student financial aid
  • Learn about military educational benefits
  • E-file your taxes
  • Request a change of address
  • Find a job or internship
  • Register for Selective Service
  • Search for campsites in national parks
  • Apply to be a Peace Corps volunteer
  • Get a replacement Social Security card
  • Buy postage stamps or U.S. Savings Bonds online
  • And more...

students.gov continues to expand links to electronic federal resources of interest to postsecondary students, based on your feedback and comments. We encourage you to take a close look at our site and give us your feedback from a student perspective. So, bookmark us and come back often!
