students.gov is a U.S. government web portal that provides a gateway for students to government services from across the federal government. students.gov is designed to make interacting with the government easier for students pursuing education beyond high school by bringing the most useful government web resources for students to gether in one place, along with selected non-government web sites.

At students.gov, you can find all sorts of government information and services of interest to you. For example, students can find a college, search for a job or internship, apply for financial aid, explore a variety of academic resources, register for Selective Service, and even book a campsite online!

students.gov is targeted to college-bound students, current college students, their families, and those who work with students.

Who sponsors the students.gov initiative? [top]

students.gov is an electronic government project sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education in partnership with many other federal agencies and government portals.

How are students.gov and FirstGov.gov related? [top]

students.gov works closely with FirstGov to provide the best possible federal information service to citizens. FirstGov provides a central access point to all federal web portals and websites -- "Your First Click to the U.S. Government." students.gov and the other interagency web portals provide access to federal information and services tailored to specific citizen interest groups, such as students, seniors, disabled persons, and businesses.

Nothing is more important to us than protecting your privacy. Our policy is simple and straightforward:

  1. We collect no personal information about you unless you choose to provide that information to us. We do not use "cookies" or other techniques for collecting personal information about you without your knowledge. We do, however, use temporary cookies for two purposes: (1) to match you as you move from page to page with the set of memory variables created during your user session--this is referred to as "maintaining state" in the "stateless" environment of the web, and (2) to ensure that visitors to students.gov are not artificially inflating the ratings of linked sites they visit.
