The Navy's home page contains an ever-growing repository of records pertaining to all aspects of the Navy and its activities.

NAVAL VESSEL REGISTER

The Naval Vessel Register contains information on ships and service craft that comprise the official inventory of the US Navy from the time of vessel authorization through its life cycle and disposal. It also includes ships that have been stricken but not disposed. Ships and service craft disposed of prior to 1987 are currently not included, however the data is gradually being added along with other updates.

NAVY BUDGET RESOURCES DIRECTORY

This directory contains information about the Department of the Navy budget and helpful information about the Navy and Marine Corps.

NAVY COMMANDS ON THE WEB

Navy Online provides a comprehensive listing of all Navy websites. You will find information and documents at these websites.

NAVY DIRECTIVES

The Navy Electronic Directives (NEDS) System: provides access to unclassified directives that contain the policies and procedures concerning the Navy's programs, services, and management activities.

NAVY SITE INDEX

Before submitting a Freedom of Information Act request or visiting our Electronic Reading Room, you will want to review the "Site Index" on the Navy's home page to identify publicly available documents. The Navy's Site Index is an alphabetical index of information about the Navy and its activities. Such items include the Navy Fact File and links to a myriad of records such as those held by the Naval Historical Center, Navy Library, GULF LINK, etc.

NAVAIR DIRECTIVES

Directives issued by the Naval Air Systems Command are available at the NAVAIR site.

DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE RESOURCE LOCATOR

The DoD (Department of Defense) Resource Locator is essentially a card catalog to help you identify publicly available DoD information sources. The records are in GILS (Government Information Locator Service) format. A quick way to find the exact information you want is to search the records which describe registered military information sources and provide contact information. With the DoD Research Locator you will find descriptions of Web sites, Web publications, Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA) electronic reading room documents, library sources, and other publicly available DoD information.
