The Eastern Area Modeling Consortium (EAMC) is a multi-agency
coalition of researchers, fire managers, air-quality managers,
and natural resource managers at the Federal, State, and local
levels working to
- Increase understanding of fire behavior and smoke dispersion
- Expand knowledge of the physics of fire-atmosphere interactions
on all scales
- Enhance ability to predict and respond to the dangers of
prescribed fires and wildfires
- Develop products and transfer new technologies related to
national and regional fire-weather and air-quality dynamics
The EAMC was founded
in 2001 under the auspices of the interagency National Fire
Plan to provide research products and associated technology
to serve the needs of the fire management community, air resource
managers, scientists, and policymakers.

The Eastern Area Modeling Consortium was well-represented at
the
5th Symposium on Fire and Forest Meteorology and 2nd
International Wildland Fire Ecology and Fire Management Congress held in Orlando Florida
on November 16 - 20, 2003.
Researchers associated with the EAMC participated several presentations related to fire science research and
index development: 1)
fuel moisture impacts , 2)
low-level jet impacts , 3) the
Double Trouble State Park wildfire , 4)
Haines Index and TKE contributions , 5)
radiative and optical properties in sub-boreal forests , 6)
fire weather index validation methodologies , 7)
EAMC overview , 8)
National Fire Danger Rating System enhancements , 9)
Haines Index investigations using parcel theory , 10)
near-surface stability and moisture effects , 11)
upper level front impact on the Mack Lake Fire.
