Preventive Medicine Residency Training Grants Program

  • Program Purpose: PHS Act, Title VII, section 768 [295c] authorizes the Secretary to make grants to and enter into contracts with schools of medicine, osteopathic medicine, and public health to meet the costs of projects to:

    • Plan, and develop new residency training programs;
    • Maintain or improve existing residency training programs in Preventive Medicine; and
    • Provide financial assistance to residency trainees enrolled in the programs.
  • Eligible to apply: accredited, public or non-profit private, school of allopathic medicine, osteopathic medicine, or public health located in a state.
  • Accreditation status of applicant organization: Allopathic programs must be fully or provisionally approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Osteopathic programs must be approved by the American Osteopathic Association. Schools of public health must be accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health.
  • Funding Period: Three years.
