Explore 125 Years of Science – Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Water and More

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is inviting the public to an open house where scientists will discuss everything from recent volcano activity at Mount St. Helens to snakeheads in the Potomac river to earthquakes in California. There will be more than 60 exhibits and hands-on activities for visitors.

Learn how the USGS tracks the effects of hurricanes. Take a trek through time, pan for gold, track manatees from space, follow Lewis and Clark’s trail, and much more.

There are excellent activities for children such as making your own fossils and fish painting. There will be photo and interview opportunities for print, broadcast, and electronic media.

Time: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Date: Saturday, October 9, 2004
