In 1999, MSHA published new Health Standards for Occupational Noise Exposure. The rule took effect on September 13, 2000. This page is a single source page for all documents and resources related to this new rule to protect miners from hearing loss. Most of the documents are in PDF format.

We will be adding to this page as time goes on. We will provide you with a date the page was last updated, as well as indicate new additions to each of the pages.

    MSHA has posted a preliminary list of background materials supporting noise control effectiveness. Some materials are not Internet-accessible at this time pending review of MSHA technical reports for information exempt from release under the Freedom of Information Act or other legal authority.
