We are completing a review and update of all current case study monographs. Sixteen case studies, Arsenic Toxicity, Asbestos Toxicity, Benzene Toxicity, Chromium Toxicity, Disease Clusters: An Overview, Environmental Triggers of Asthma, Lead Toxicity, Nitrate/Nitrite Toxicity, Pediatric Environmental Health, Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) Toxicity, Radiation Exposure From Iodine 131, Radon Toxicity, Stoddard Solvent Toxicity, Taking an Exposure History, Toluene Toxicity, and Trichloroethylene Toxicity, are available on the Internet.

One new case study is now in pilot testing: Immunologic Disorders (a Web-based interactive case study).

If you are a health professional
interested in pilot testing new case studies,
visit the Pilot Testing Program Web page.

The Web-based interactive Immunologic Disorders case study is a sophisticated, multimedia program that aggressively takes advantage of the Internet capability to incorporate textual information and databases with graphics, video, audio, and client-side interaction through Javascript. The multimedia design "walks" the student through a simulated patient examination.

Future Directions

New case studies will be developed with a focus on health conditions rather than specific substances. We will promote and market the case studies to health care institutions and survey health professionals in an effort to keep the program viable and relevant to their education needs.
