Horicon RainbowHoricon Marsh is a success story of how we can reclaim our precious environment from pollution and exploitation for our wildlife, community and children.  Starting in the 1920's, Wisconsin citizens were part of the driving force to create the Refuge.  Click here to read Horicon Marsh's amazing history.  Today, our local communities continue that stewardship role by being a critical part of the National Wildlife Refuge team that protects and manages the 21,417 acre Refuge. The Refuge consists of a vast hemi-marsh surrounded by upland grasses which supports over 223 species of birds and other diverse wildlife.   A place of beauty and recreation, the Refuge hosts visitors, sportsmen, hikers and others interested in learning about wetlands.  All visitors can feel the beauty of the outdoors and gain a sense of pride in this distinct Wetland of International Importance.   Use our web site to learn about the Refuge, plan a trip to visit us, or find information about helping preserve and care for the Refuge.
