CINT Core Facility Construction Photos

The Core Facility, which will be constructed in Albuquerque, will be the single point of entry for the CINT user community and will provide the multi-disciplinary research environment needed to explore scientific challenges associated with nanoscience integration. In order to ensure open access to the user community, the Core Facility will be constructed on DOE property outside of the Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB).

CINT Gateway Facility Construction Photos

Development of the Gateway to Los Alamos Facility includes the construction of a new building on the Los Alamos campus providing the user community direct access to existing nanoscale materials science and bioscience capabilities. The Gateway, to be located in the center of the Los Alamos Materials Science Complex, which is in the open security environment, will facilitate easy access to these existing nanoscale materials science and bioscience resources. The Gateway to Los Alamos Facility will provide a unique research environment for CINT users that combines nanoscale materials science and biosciences capabilities and expertise under one roof surrounded by supporting resources accessible to CINT users.

Project Descriptions

Core Facility
The Core Facility is planned as a new office/lab facility to be located near Sandia’s Tech Area I but outside the KAFB fence on Eubank Boulevard (near Research Park). The building will contain approximately 96,000 gsf, including 24,000 net square feet (nsf) of laboratory space. Included in this space are synthesis labs for chemical and biological work, characterization labs for optical and laser work, and Class 1000 clean rooms for integration operations. The building will also include classrooms, conference rooms, and interaction spaces to facilitate the exchange of information for multidisciplinary communication and development.

Unique design features of the building include: Class 1000 clean rooms with ability to achieve Class 1 with mini-environments, HVAC design for chemical free air streams, and structural and mechanical design to minimize vibrations in floor slabs.

Site improvements for this project include security fencing, service drives and yards, signage, parking, and landscaping. Site utilities will connect to the existing Sandia utility infrastructure.

Gateway to Los Alamos
The Gateway to Los Alamos Facility is planned as a new office/lab facility to be located on the east side of LANL’s Tech Area 3 near related research facilities. The building will contain approximately 34,000 gsf, including nearly 11,000 nsf of synthesis and characterization labs which primarily focus on biosciences and nanomaterials work. The building will also include a number of interaction/common spaces to facilitate the exchange of information for multidisciplinary communication and development.

Due to site constraints, a multi-story structure will be necessary. Unique design features of the building include: HVAC design for chemical free air streams, and structural and mechanical design to minimize vibrations in floor slabs.

Site improvements for this project include a fenced service yard, signage, parking, walkways to adjacent facilities, and landscaping. Site utilities are immediately available from the existing LANL utility infrastructure
