"Ground-Water Microbiology and Geochemistry" Published

The second edition of the textbook "Ground-Water Microbiology and Geochemistry" by Francis H. Chapelle has been published. Dr. Chapelle has been an active researcher with the U.S. Geological Survey's Toxic Substances Hydrology (Toxics) Program for many years. His research and the research of his Toxics Program colleagues are featured in many places in the textbook. "Ground-Water Microbiology and Geochemistry" explains microbial processes and how they affect the chemical composition of ground water and the fate of contaminants. The textbook provides an overview of basic applied microbiology, a review of microbial processes in pristine ground water systems, and coverage of the biodegradation of human-introduced contaminants in ground-water systems. The book was designed to bridge the gap between applied microbiology and applied hydrogeology.
