Waste Prevention

Reduction in the volume of wastes created will result in savings from the costs avoided from waste handling, storage, recycling, recovery, and disposal.

Strategies and Best Practices
There are many strategies and best practices for reducing the volume or toxicity of wastes created. Redesign, Practice Modification, Reuse of Products, Materials and Containers, and Organic Material Management are all effective strategies. For specific examples of these strategies in use at Federal facilities, see examples under Success Stories.
