The Enhanced Specialized Mobile Radio Services contract (GS07T03BGD0003) was awarded to Nextel Communications on November 26, 2002. The contract is a two-year nationwide Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract, with three one-year options.  The first option period has been exercised  and will extend the contract period to November 25, 2005. 

The contract is available to all federal agencies, as well as state and local agencies with federal funding.  Eligibility to purchase under this contract is determined by the GSA Office of Acquisition Policy as described in GSA Administrative Order 4800.2e, Eligibility to Use GSA Sources of Supply and Services, dated January 3, 2000. 

The full range of products and services include all digital cellular service and Direct Connect, Nextel’s unique “walkie-talkie” feature.   The Nextel suite of services also delivers unique interoperability features for incident management and emergency response communications.

Standard features on Nextel all-digital phones include:

• Variable alert notification of incoming call.
• Voice mail.
• Text and numeric paging.
• Three-way calling.
• Direct Connect 2-way radio feature.

GSA contract pricing has been negotiated to give all agencies the very best value leveraging the requirements of over 150,000 current customers.  The rate plan pricing is 18% below the best pricing offered to commercial customers.  Equipment is discounted 39% below the best corporate rates.  The flexible pricing structure offers government clients a choice of either government account or local market rate plans to meet specific business needs.
